B2B: How To Veganize Your Beauty Company

As you may have heard, Sipping Prettea is now officially certified as a vegan & cruelty-free company and we couldn't be more excited! To be quite honest, the road wasn't as easy as we'd hoped. We knew hands-down that we were an all natural company (our sore wrists can attest!), but we were completely oblivious to the not so animal safe ingredients we were supporting when we first started off. Fast forward and we've perfected the concept of Beauty Without Bunnies. So...we put together a few vegan ingredient alternatives for business owners and DIY mavens to make their products fluff free! Because we love you & we don't want you to feel the burn of the mountains we had to climb to get here.

Candelilla Wax

Beeswax

Straight out of the leaves of the candelilla shrub, this wax is super dense & requires a lot less product to get the job done (approx. 1/2 of your beeswax measurements). Inventory dream come true. Even better, is these two ingredients are parallel in pricing and nutritive so the transition is kind of seamless. Where To Find: BrambleBerry.com

Vegetable Cetyl Alcohol

Cetyl Alcohol

The original ingredient derives from spermaceti of the Sperm Whale & can be found on the ingredient list of like 80% of the haircare products on store shelves. Although it's not harmful to your hair, U.S regulations currently prohibit ingredients coming from marine animals. The new Plan A? A synthetic spermaceti made from coconut; & if you're beauty product obsessed, you know the amazing benefits coconut hair on the hair & skin. Where To Find: Luxuriant-Sparkle (Amazon)

Fruit & Veggies

Collagen

There are a ton of fruits & vegetables that make for great collagen bases. One of the top contenders being prunes. What you want to look out for, are foods that are high in Vitamin C. Where To Find: Your Local Supermarket or Fresh Direct

Shea Butter

Lanolin

The not so vegan ingredient is sourced from wool sheered from live sheep (Oh No!), but it doesn't have to be that way guys! Shea butter, a plant-based fat extracted from the shea nut, is pretty spot on in consistency and has a whole other blog post worth of benefits. Other Ingredients to Look Out For ( as these derive from both plants and animals):

  • Glycerin

  • Allantoin

When in doubt, call the manufacturer or reference this Vegan Ingredient Guide here.
